BANK Gallery presents a breathtaking solo booth by Michael Najjar at the upcoming PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai.

For decades, Najjar has embarked on extraordinary journeys and expeditions across the globe. His projects often originate from intensive fieldwork in remote, liminal locations — many of which are difficult to access. He has climbed peaks over 7,000 meters high, scaled skyscrapers, trekked across erupting volcanoes, traversed glaciers, descended into ice caves, crossed deserts, and undergone rigorous astronaut training with the aim of becoming the first artist to travel into space. Widely regarded as an "Anthropocene explorer," Najjar investigates the profound ecological, economic, and cultural consequences of human-induced climate change – forces that are reshaping the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

The Shanghai presentation showcases iconic works from his acclaimed "cool earth" series, juxtaposing the raw energy of Icelandic volcanic eruptions with the quiet, haunting drama of Arctic glacial melt. Utilizing cutting-edge photographic and video technologies, Najjar’s work immerses viewers in powerful, sensory experiences of nature’s sublime – and at times violent – forces.
